Book Review: Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Rating: ...Literally Iconic

Summary:

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate last-chance mission, and if he fails, humanity and Earth will perish. But right now, he doesn’t even remember his own name, let alone his assignment. All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very long time and has just woken up millions of miles from home. As his memories start to return, Ryland realizes he faces an impossible task: solving a scientific mystery and stopping an extinction-level threat, all while hurtling through space alone. Or is he?

Lindsay's Thoughts:

This was my second time reading this book. The first time I thought it was great. Upon another reading, I think it's damn near infallible. It's funny. It's smart (I think? Who knows...I'm a liberal arts major). It's rooted in what I love most about science fiction... what does it mean to be human in a world where humanity is not at the center of the universe? This is a perfect example of what it means to transcend genre. This story is for anyone...human, spider, gelatinous space blob...you'll love it.

Magda's Thoughts:

I can't believe it took me so long to read a book by Andy Weir. When I say this was a masterpiece, I'm not exaggerating. It has science, humor, suspense, high stakes, and unexpected friendships. If you only read one book a year, this is the one I recommend. If you have a young adult in your life, this book might inspire them to go into STEM. Although the science might be a lot, the comedic balance is perfect. I recommend the audiobook because it allows you to fully immerse yourself in the story without getting too hung up on the science. This is one of my favorite reads this year!
