Book Review: The Burnout by Sophie Kinsella

Rating: ...Literally good.

Summary:

Sasha is at her breaking point, unable to muster the energy for another pointless "urgent" email or the corporate joyfulness program. She hasn't seen her friends in months, and even basic tasks like cooking feel overwhelming. After a meltdown at work, she decides to visit a seaside resort from her childhood, hoping to find peace with kale smoothies and yoga. However, she finds the hotel in disrepair and must share the beach with Finn, a grumpy and equally stressed-out man. Their attempts at relaxation clash, with Sasha preferring healthy activities and Finn opting for drinking whisky and ordering pizza.

Magda's Thoughts:

I enjoyed this book, particularly relating to Sasha's experience with burnout due to lack of support from her leadership team. After a breakdown, she takes a trip to a resort town from her childhood, where she meets a variety of hilarious and heartwarming characters who help bring levity back into her life. I was especially drawn to Sasha's developing relationship with Finn, as both characters grow and recover from their personal and professional traumas. My favorite part was Terry’s story, which moved me to tears upon learning his fate, but overall, the story remained very heartwarming.
