Book Review: The Perfect Marriage by Jeneva Rose

Rating: ...Literally no

Summary:

Sarah Morgan, a successful and powerful defense attorney in Washington D.C., is a named partner at her firm, living the life she planned. In contrast, her husband, Adam, is a struggling writer with little career success and growing dissatisfaction with their relationship due to Sarah's constant work commitments. Seeking solace, Adam begins a passionate affair with Kelly Summers at their secluded second home in the woods. However, everything changes one morning when Adam is arrested for Kelly's murder, found stabbed to death in their second home. Now, Sarah faces the challenge of defending her own husband, accused of murdering his mistress.

Magda's Thoughts:

I'm not sure if this is a genre I'm unaware of, but there wasn't a single likable character here. Adam, the main character, is dumb and reckless, and Sarah is equally unlikeable. It seems like "Gone Girl" influenced the ending of this book. There were numerous unresolved plot holes that left me annoyed, such as what happened to Scott, what was the deal with Deputy Hudson, and whether the police or the DA were truly that incompetent. I ended up hate-listening to this audiobook, and now I'm hesitant to read other books by this author because I worry that this genre is all about unlikeable people. Someone once told me that you need to be able to root for someone in a book, but in this case, it was impossible, making the story jaded. I'm not sure why this book is so hyped and am left wondering if there's something I'm missing.
